If you're one of those who come back from McAllen or Laredo with a trunk full of Twisted Tea, or who pay MXN $600, $800 or $1,100 for a 12-pack on a marketplace because "you can't get it here", this is for you: you don't have to cross the border for hard tea anymore. Since October 2026 there's one made in Mexico, and it's at the OXXO around the corner.
How hard tea got to Mexico (without arriving)
Hard tea, iced tea with alcohol, is the fastest-growing ready-to-drink category in the United States, and Twisted Tea is the brand that made it famous. For years the only way to drink it in Mexico was to bring it: in the trunk, in a suitcase, or buying it from someone who did. Twisted Tea has no official distribution in Mexico. What you see on Amazon or Mercado Libre is informal import: small quantities, English labels, no cold chain and whatever price the reseller wants. A 12-pack that costs USD 18 in Texas goes for MXN $50–$90 per can here.
Nothing wrong with that. But it's an absurd luxury for iced tea with alcohol.
What changed
Fitzer, the Monterrey brand that brought the first hard seltzer to Mexico in 2020, launched Fitzer Hard Iced Tea in October 2026: the first hard tea made in the country. Black tea flavor, no bubbles, triple-distilled alcohol, 473 ml can, in two flavors:
- Peach · 5.0% ABV · for the long afternoon: more body, more flavor.
- Lemon Light · 4.0% ABV · 0 g sugar · for full sun.
Twisted Tea vs. Fitzer Hard Iced Tea
| Twisted Tea (resale) | Fitzer Hard Iced Tea | |

| Bubbles | Still | Still |
| Price per can | MXN $50–$90 | Regular shelf price |
| Label | English | NOM-compliant, Spanish |

If you were into Twisted Tea Original (black tea with lemon, sweet), Fitzer Peach is the closest in spirit, cleaner on the palate thanks to triple-distilled alcohol. And Lemon Light is the sugar-free version that doesn't exist up north in a tall can.
